North Head Tunnels, Devonport

Discover a network of WW2 tunnels beneath the North Head of Devonport. Here the history is rich, and the views expansive over the Auckland Harbour.

Whether you grab a torch and opt to explore the underground tunnels or walk the grassy heads looking out to Auckland City and the Waitemata Harbour, this is a delightful daytrip.

The WW2 military site displays old guns, canons, searchlights and bunkers.  Take a self guided walk, or relax on the banks and soak in the amazing city views from this cliff top location.

An easy walk from Devonport Ferry Terminal, this is a must-see for any day-tripper to Auckland.

If you have younger children, be sure to find some flattened cardboard and let them grass surf down the banks.  Or, walk down to the Cheltenham Beach for family friendly swimming.
