Rotorua Lakes Winter Wonderland

Rotorua is cold and frosty outside this winter but there is still plenty to do to keep you warm!

This winter has featured sharp white frosts, on the ground in Rotorua, but the resulting fine day after a frost is always beautiful. Think clean, clear blue skies, contrasting with sparkling drops of water on brilliant green grass and air that takes on a fresh, invigorating quality and you have got the picture.

Keep warm and take a brisk walk around our lakes or enjoy many of the free bush walks, such as Mt Ngongataha, The Redwoods Forest and the Lake Okareka boardwalk (a personal favourite). Grab a friend, take your camera and prepare to commune with nature as you witness the bird life going about its daily business on the wetlands of Lake Okareka.  Morning is best, but be sure to go once the sun is up and melting the slippery frost on the boardwalk. It is fascinating to see white frost “shadows” of nearby bushes on the boardwalk, contrasting with the dark brown of wet wood where the sun has already melted the frost. Snap another photo and keep safe by walking on the dark brown sections!

At Careem BnB located right on the edge of Lake Okareka, you will stay close to the Lake Okareka Boardwalk (only 2 minutes away) and see the beautiful sights for yourself. You can even touch the frost outside your door, where the lawn goes right to the lake edge.  This winter, our BnB guests are commenting on the stunning views, the cosy flat and the cooked breakfasts to help them overcome the winter chill outside. If walking in the brisk winter weather is not your cup of tea we also have Careem Wellness Spa onsite where you can enjoy a therapeutic massage or beauty therapy which will keep you warm and leave you feeling rejuvenated.
