Winter rafting rocks!

If it's "puking" snow and the mountains are closed, put away the skis for the day and come White Water Rafting on the exciting Tongariro River.

The Central Plateau is home to some of NZ's most beautiful and yet accessible wild places. It truly is an area "not to be missed" while travelling through Aotearoa.

During winter the Tongariro National Park turns white with a liberal covering of snow, transforming Mt Ruapehu into the home of NZ's biggest ski fields.

Its a risky thing to plan a skiing holiday, for the weather that brings the snow we all need and love is also the weather that can keep us off the mountain.

But this is what makes the Central Plateau region such a great winter destination for there is soooo much more than just skiiing to do here.

One of the best things to do if you're in need of a rest day off the hill or if the weather has clagged in closing the skifield - is to try white water rafting.

No where in NZ is better - The Tongariro River provides the best Class Three Section of White Water in NZ.

Class three is the perfect level to have fun while not being too extreme and with over 50 rapids - spending two hours on the water, it is an adventure the entire group will enjoy.

Rafting New Zealand located in the township of Turangi will take care of your every need. They completely outfit you to keep you toasty warm and with hot showers, hot mulled wine and hot pools close by - there's no excuse to not get out and adventure on the Awa (River).

So if you're traveling through or staying in the Central Plateau this winter - set a day aside to go white water rafting and experience the thrill of rafting on one of NZ's most beautiful rivers.
