Described as the "Angler's El Dorado", Northland is one of New Zealand's top salt water fishing destinations.

Marlin, tuna, kingfish, tarakihi...you'll find all these species of fish, and more, on Northland's east coast. All the World and National fishing records for striped marlin, yellowtail kingfish and snapper are held here, and the abundance of fishing charters in the area make these waters easily accessible for visitors.

If you're a serious game fisherman, head to Whangaroa Harbour - one of the most productive Marlin fishing grounds in New Zealand. The Bay of Islands comes a close second. Enjoy fine in-shore fishing from Karikari peninsula, or combine fishing with diving and visit Tutukaka - the gateway to the Poor Kinghts Islands marine reserve.
