Choose your adrenaline rush in Taupo

Whether it’s by sky, water or land, there’s plenty of ways to get your blood pumping in this epic North Island destination.

Take to the Skies

Skydiving is an obvious choice in Taupo, with its expansive lake views and epic mountain scenery.  You’ll be in safe hands too, with more people parachuting out of Taupo’s drop zone each year than anywhere else on the planet.

For the non-jumpers, there’s also the option of a scenic flight, either by plane or helicopter.  Enjoy the breath-taking views and the thrills of the scenic landscape without leaving the plane.

If a plane is too much, get your thrills with a safety tether at Taupo Bungy.  Bungy jumping was invented in New Zealand, so a Kiwi bungy jump is just about a rite of passage these days.  A bungy in Taupo is bungy at its best, with the option of getting dunked in the crystal clear Waikato river at the bottom of your jump.

Make a Splash

For another Kiwi invention that might get you soaked, try jet boating.  Speed, spins and splashes are all a part of the jet boat experience, but if you take a ride in Taupo, you can end up right at the base of the thundering Huka Falls; a heart-pumping experience in and of itself!

To actually ride a waterfall yourself, you’ll have to go elsewhere, but luckily the Tongariro River is situated on the Southern end of Lake Taupo.  Here you’ll find some of the North Island’s most diverse white-water rafting, including extreme class 5 rapids for the biggest thrill-seekers.

Hit the Trails

If dry land is your favoured adventure medium, you also have ample opportunity to explore in Taupo.  For the engine-lovers, there are dozens of parks and tracks for quad-bikes and motocross, and there’s even a racecar track and racing school at the Bruce McLaren Motorsport Park.

If you’re looking to power your adventure with just two legs, Taupo is also rich in mountain bike and trekking trails.  For the ultimate thrill-seekers, try heli-biking on the Kainmanawas or trekking across the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Kick Back

Once the adrenaline rush has passed, treat yourself to a well-earned dose of relaxation at The Cove, Taupo.  Several of the luxurious rooms include their own private spa to soak away any sore muscles or frayed nerves while taking in the views out over Lake Taupo and the central mountains.
