Family Activities in Rotorua

A great selection of family-friendly activities to enjoy during your visit to Rotorua

Are you looking to bring the family to Rotorua? With an abundance of family-friendly activities, Rotorua will soon become the entire family’s favourite holiday destination.

Rotorua Museum

The Rotorua Museum is the perfect introduction to Rotorua’s rich history. The museum is found within the historic Bath House building, surrounded by the beautiful Government Gardens. There is a combination of temporary and permanent exhibits on display at the museum. Amongst the permanent displays, many visitors find the highlight to be the interactive exhibit on the devastating 1886 Mt Tarawera eruption which destroyed the eighth wonder of the world – the Pink and White Terraces. The Rotorua Museum is a highly recommended family-friendly activity for those cooler or wet days.

Agrodome Sheep Show

The Agrodome Sheep Show is an hour of non-stop farming entertainment that you are unlikely to find anywhere else. Being introduced to 19 breeds of sheep, watching a sheep-shearing demonstration and bidding in a live sheep auction are just some of the highlights of the show. After the Sheep Show you can also take in a dog trial exhibition and visit the Farmyard Nursery, home to the cutest and friendliest animals you will ever find on a farm.

Paradise Valley Springs

Paradise Valley Springs is a beautifully presented New Zealand Trout, Bird and Wildlife park. Visitors to the park can get up close to friendly farm animals such as Alpacas, Goats and Sheep. Wildlife inhabitants of the park include Deer, Pigs, Thar and Wallabies. The park is also filled with pools of crystal-clear spring water, trout and eels. The ideal time to visit Paradise Valley Springs is at 2.30pm when the daily feeding of park’s pride of lions takes place.

Rainbow Springs Nature Park

Rainbow Springs Nature Park is 22 acres of New Zealand’s finest flora and fauna. Amongst the park’s many inhabitants you will find Tuatara, Kaka, Weka and Kiwi. The Kiwi take top billing at Rainbow Springs with two options to see these national treasures. Daytime visitors can view kiwi in the nocturnal house while evening visitors can meet kiwi in the open-air aviary. The younger members of the family will love the Big Splash water ride and the Exotic Bird Show is a great piece of entertainment for the whole family.
