One of the great things about the Kapiti Coast is that at every turn there’s a special experience for you and the kids that doesn’t cost the earth.
Whether you’re visiting one of our nature or historical attractions, picnicking at a reserve or splashing around in the sea, you’ll be doing things the fun kiwi way.
Our beaches are safe and our accommodation is affordable (and many places are very child-friendly).
Choose two or three of these things to do per day or weekend.
Queen Elizabeth Park is home to the last natural dunes on Kapiti's coastline.
A one-stop shop for horse riding with ponies for the little ones.
Take a ride on a genuine vintage tram.
A bike riding loop starts from the beach, follows a stream to MacKays Crossing and returns to the coast via a sealed road.
Marine Gardens (Raumati Beach)
A magical spot close to the pool, rose gardens, beach, shops and miniature railway perfect for a day out.
Take a locomotive ride with the whole family.
Lindale Farm (Paraparaumu)
A collection of shops and family-friendly activities including farm and barn encounters.
Coastlands Aquatic Centre (Paraparaumu)
An indoor pool that feels like an outdoor pool thanks to the transparent roof.
Need to refuel? Each town has a variety of eateries from classic kiwi bakeries to upmarket cafe food. Or head to a supermarket, grab a chicken, some bread and salad, and head to the beach or a river. The kids will love Kapiti Candies in the Lindale complex at Paraparaumu, or Nyco Chocolates in Raumati.
Contact our i-SITE Visitor Information Centres for more details including bus, train, and tide timetables; or the latest in other activities and events. They are located in Paraparaumu and Otaki.
