Gondola accessed Down Hill MTB in Queenstown!

Sensational multiple DH tracks in the Ben Lomond Forest just a stones throw above the vibrant four season lake and alpine resort of Queenstown.

In a fantastic day for the entire mountain biking community and Queenstown in general, the Queenstown Gondola was opened to mountain bikes for a trial season on Sunday (Jan 23, 2011).

The beautiful gondola ride takes riders and their bikes up to the top on Bob's Peak to access the many downhill trails in the Ben Lomond Forest.

The numerous more advanced trails built over the years by various members of the community including the Queenstown Mountain Bike Club have been joined by a new purpose built trail.

The new trail is named Hammy's Track in honor of Ian Hamilton who built the original access road in the sixties.

Hammy's track runs around the perimeter of the biking area and is accessible to all levels of rider with plenty of jumps, berms and log rides to keep the more advanced riders happy too.

It allows multiple lines to keep things fresh and provides some fantastic views over Lake Wakatipu and Queenstown.
