Hutt River Trail, Wellington Region

The Hutt River Trail is a beautiful, relaxing, easy grade ride in the Wellington Region that follows the famous Trout fishing river.

The Hutt River Trail is popular with local Wellington residents, but doesn't seem to attract too many tourists.

It's hard to understand why, given the Trail is well formed and follows an easy grade alongside the beautiful Hutt River as it flows to the ocean.

A long time favourite with Fly Fishermen, this river is home to some of the best Trout fishing in the country.

It also has some fantastic swimming holes - very refreshing in summer!

We highly recommend spending a night camping at the top of the Hutt Valley and riding this Trail to Petone and back the following morning.

There are plenty of places to stop for a swim and refreshments on the way and lots of wonderful photo opportunities.

This ride is suited to all ages and abilities, and is family friendly (although if you're travelling with younger children, you'll probably want to only ride a short portion of the Trail rather than tackling the full length).
