The Lake Wakatipu Ride - It’s a relatively flat and easy ride or long-ish walk with wide trails designed for walkers and riders to share. It’s ideal for families with young children or those of us who are relative strangers to cycling!
The official trail starts at Earnslaw Park, Queenstown town centre or begin at Queenstown Gardens entrance and follow the signposts all the way along the lakefront. Stop for coffee at the Boatshed, Frankton Marina then follow the signs to the historic one-lane Kawarau Falls bridge. This is where Lake Wakatipu flows into the mighty Kawarau River. A great photo spot.
If you feel the urge for a spa or massage, brunch or beer, stop off at The Hilton Hotel for a luxurious experience. If the mood takes you, make an afternoon of it and ask the Hilton to arrange return transport for you and your bikes. Or you can carry on past The Hilton along the shores of Lake Wakatipu.
Here you’ll get an up-close view of some of Queenstown’s most notable contemporary homes. Take your time to soak up the lakefront views and incredible photo opportunities along the way. The easy trail takes you to the Wakatipu Yacht Club – further on the trail becomes narrow and challenging.
The Queenstown golf course has a great café and is only a short five minute uphill ride.
Return the same way or arrange transport for you and your bikes, back to Queenstown.
