Springtime Fun at Porters
Porters has a great line up of events through September so you can enjoy skiing and riding in the spring. The days are longer, sunnier and just a touch warmer: skiing and riding in tee shirts are a common sight! In short, it is a great time to be on the snow slopes.
Porters are sprinkling the month with several fun events.
Spring Park Jam: Sunday 11 September
Jam it up in the Community Park. Porters snow management team will devise some fun jumps, berms and rails for the event, which will start at 10am. There are prizes to be won!
Octoberfest: Sunday 18th September
Yes I know….Porters is having Octoberfest in September but it will still have all the flavour and traditions of those held in October! Strap on your lederhosen, German frock and enjoy German food and beer. Look out for an Oompah band! Starting at the Porters café from noon.
Retro Day: Sunday 25th September
Dig out your fluoro onesies and historic skis and bring your old school manoeuvres onto the mountain and celebrate spring in retro style. Prizes for the best outfit, oldest skis and craziest poses! Guaranteed to get a laugh out of today’s kids…or will they be acutely embarrassed!
What else is there to enjoy in Spring?
Grab the chairlift and tee-bar to the top of the mountain for the most spectacular view of surrounding mountains (including Aoraki Mount Cook to the south), Lake Coleridge and the Canterbury Plains. The panoramic views are simply breath-taking, so don’t forget your camera on this trip.
LEARNING TO SKI
Spring time is an awesome time to learn to ski. With warmer days and more sunshine you don’t get as cold if you take the occasional tumble. At Porters we have arguably the best learners’ area in Canterbury, which is easy to access from the car park.
Porters is the closest ski are to Christchurch International Airport, with a drive time of only one hour, and is tucked away at the eastern end of the Craigieburn Range. Most of the road to Porters is via a State Highway (SH 73) and there is only 7km of mountain road of the state highway, so access is easy to the mountain.
So there are heaps of reasons to add on a spring ski holiday to Porters; enjoy events, take in the views or even learn to ski at Christchurch’s closest ski area.
