Walk the Southern Enclosure (Te Tui a Taane) in the reserve. This totally unique experience allows visitors to get up close to New Zealand's native birds and self-sustaining forest.
There are a range of walks in the reserve and one of the most popular is the Southern Enclosure. Follow 5km of track as it winds through New Zealand forest and past kaka and weta nest boxes. You’ll also see an aviary used to house new arrivals and birds in transit. Signs with information are scattered along the track so you can find out more about the sights.
You can also walk the close by Tautari track and pass through a wetland valley which surrounds a lake. Find out more here.
The Southern Enclosure is a family friendly track that suits all ages. The track is well formed with helpful sign posts along the way.
