A labyrinth of purpose-built mountain bike tracks, weaving through pine forest on the coast north of Auckland.

Overview

Woodhill is the most popular mountain biking destination in the Auckland region, and has over 60 tracks built through pine forest close to the West Coast. There is a large carpark at the park entrance, and beside that a park village with bike hire and a workshop, a café and , a shop with mechanics, and an information centre where you can buy your trail pass and pick up a map. The park is open from 9am to 5pm most days, and 10am to 10pm on Wednesdays.

Woodhill forest also caters for several other activities including walking, highwire adventures and Disc (Frisbee) Golf.

Riding the trails

The trails are mostly narrow, flowing single tracks on a sandy base that is good to ride, even after rain. There also a jumps park near the carpark, and over 200 man-made structures throughout the network of single tracks. All the trails are well marked, and weave through the forest, eventually leading back to the main carpark. There are three suggested loops, short, medium and the longest one, which is 15 km long. It is hugely popular destination, and you are bound to meet other people during your ride. See the Woodhill Forest Mountain Bike Park website(opens in new window) for more information on the trails.
