If you're close by in the South Waikato District, stop by the rural centre of Arapuni to experience river views and quiet country life. It's also a base for the Lake Arapuni section of the Waikato River cycle trails.
Arapuni, a small country settlement, is nestled between rolling farms on a long stretch of road in the South Waikato District. Importantly, it's a brief 15 minute drive away from the town of Putaruru and a quick trip from Hobbiton movie set. With its central location, Arapuni is the perfect place to take a break as you tour the area.
Try delicious food and beverages at Rhubarb Café. A favourite with locals, the food is delish and the retro furniture is comfy. The close by Lake Arapuni section of the Waikato River cycle trails is a must do too. Waikato River Trails offer a bike hire and shuttle service and it's a short cycle from Rhubarb Café to the start of the trail. While steep in places, the trail is generally easy to ride. It passes by Jones Landing, a nice open space popular with freedom campers.
