There are numerous lookout points giving great views of the valleys. Watch out for the local residents - the kea is the world's only alpine parrot and can be extremely cheeky.
The New Zealand ski season usually operates from late June to early October depending on the snow conditions. You can spend at least a week experiencing a new skifield each day!
Skifields to explore are: Mt Hutt, Porters, Cheeseman, Broken River, Craigieburn, Mt Olympus and Temple Basin.
