Rotorua's World Top Ten Spa

This is my list of top ten reasons to visit a unique geothermal attraction in the heart of Rotorua. If you have also visited let me know yours.

10 Reasons Why You Should Visit a World Top Ten Spa in Rotorua

1. The only spa outside of Europe to be voted in the World Top 10!

Polynesian Spa in Rotorua has been voted a World Top Ten Spa by Conde Nast Traveller Magazine from 2004-2007, 2009 & 2011 in the natural/thermal/medical category.

2. Late opening hours – suitable for anyone’s schedule

Open from 8am until 11pm daily (last pool entry 10.15pm). Perfect for an early morning dip to catch the sunrise over Lake Rotorua, or an after dinner soak to help put you to sleep. The perfect way to end a day of travelling by coach or plane.

3. The spa therapies are to die for!

After soaking in the Lake Spa (complimentary with any therapy) which relaxes all your muscles, you feel like you can melt away with a spa therapy. Spa therapies and hydro spa therapies are offered, with dual rooms available if you want to share the experience with someone special.

The extensive spa therapy menu at Polynesian Spa features something for everyone, from facials to mud wraps, massages to scrubs. They even offer pregnancy massage!

4. Amazing mineral water - feel it to believe it!

Two different types of mineral water are available at the spa – the acidic and the alkaline. The world renowned acidic water from the Radium Hot spring renowned for its therapeutic properties.

Millions of visitors to Polynesian Spa over the last 125 years have received relief from this water for their tired muscles, aches and pains, arthritis and rheumatism. The alkaline water is characterised by its normal clarity and soft feel.

It emanates from a deep boiling spring and is cooled to bathing temperature by the addition of town supply cold water. The bland, soothing, antiseptic action of sodium silicate makes this water very pleasing on the skin.

5. Experience the history

There is a reason commercial bathing has been on the same site for 130 years! A duchess, a saint, and even a fake beautician make up some of the history of Polynesian Spa.

6. Polynesian Spa Shop – more than you could dream of

Simply the most beautiful shop filled with stunning products and amazing scents. Treat yourself, your friends and family with beautifully wrapped spa gifts. An amazing range of swimwear and spa accessories are available to purchase, or take home one of the items from their signature range to keep the memories alive.  You will not leave this shop disappointed.

7. Free Wi-Fi

If you need a spot to check your emails or send an update home to your friends and family, Polynesian Spa Café offers free wireless with any café purchase. The café offers lots of healthy food, as well as beer, wine, freshly squeezed fruit juices and smoothies, and NZ ice-cream. Yum!

8. The people make the experience

People in New Zealand are known for being friendly, with nothing being a problem. They welcome with a ‘Kia Ora’ and a big smile, and treat you like long lost friends. The staff at Polynesian Spa are no exception. They are very knowledgeable and are willing to help with any requirements – service with a smile guaranteed.

9. Eco-friendly for your peace of mind
Recycling facilities are available throughout the complex for customers to use, and it is nice to know that the waste you put into the rubbish bin isn’t going straight into the landfill. Polynesian Spa is a member of the Rotorua Sustainable Tourism Charter and proudly displays Qualmark Enviro-Gold certification at the spa and on its website.

10. Location, Location, Location

Situated in the CBD on the edge of Lake Rotorua, Polynesian Spa is easily accessible from all Rotorua accommodation and the information centre. Adjacent to the Millennium and Sudima Hotels, and within easy walking distance from many other accommodation options, you don’t necessarily need a vehicle to add a visit to this must-do attraction to your schedule.
