From breathtaking waterfalls to emerald green hills, the verdant farmland of the Southland region is also home to an array of wildlife from seals and sea-lions, to penguins, dolphins and of course the iconic Kiwi which can, with patience and some luck, be spotted in its natural environment on Stewart Island. The salty seaside township of Bluff is home to this festive winter event. Brought to you each May by the locals of Bluff with a uniquely Southland flavour. Bluff oysters - complementing the sumptuous Bluff oyster is a variety of seafood. Crayfish, paua (abalone), scallops, salmon, blue cod and mussels in abundance. Delicious wild foods - local fare that will tempt any tastebuds. Sought-after muttonbird, venison, lamb or the humble Kiwi sausage, all washed down with great southern ales and a selection of New Zealand wines.

Every year in June for the last 37 years Gore has hosted the New Zealand Gold Guitar Awards. This event attracts artists from around the world and continues to grow in stature and popularity. Audience levels reach over 5,000 and the entries in all sections and events total 700 competitors. Visitors to Gore leave with fond memories of the ‘Southern Hospitality’ and along with the locals, just soak up the Country Music atmosphere.
