With Ngongotaha being recently rated as one of the top eight locations in New Zealand (and the only destination in the North Island) for stargazing, we thought it would be a great time to announce the launch of stargazing tours at Skyline Rotorua!
Commencing in December, the 75 minute tours will be run after dark, year-round (weather permitting). Skyline Rotorua will be investing $250,000 into the developing the attraction, including the purchase of top-of-the-line telescopes giving stargazers a jaw dropping view of other galaxies.
The most impressive telescope on the platform is called ‘The Don,’ weighing over 100kg and performing 2,586 times better than your eye to see space like never before.
The stargazine experience will include a gondola ride up Mt Ngongotaha, where you'll discover panoramic views over the town of Rotorua. You'll be met by a professional stargazing guide who will take you on a short walk to the purpose-built stargazing platform. From here you'll get an interactive presentation of constellations in the night sky while being able to discover planets invisible to the naked eye through impressive telescopes - creating a fully immersive experience.
