Taranaki, Whanganui and Rangitikei - it's Time 2 Go!

The mighty Mount Taranaki, the beautiful Whanganui River and the quirks of the Rangitikei are stand outs for all travellers to these regions.

TARANAKI

Taranaki's bulbous coastline, tucked firmly around two-thirds of its zen-like mountain of the same name, provides New Zealand's most consistent surfing conditions.  There are literally hundreds of point breaks and to gain access one must travel the legendary Surf Highway, which horseshoes around the coast from New Plymouth to Hawera.  The region also offers plenty of history, museums, famous rhododendron gardens and picturesque seaside towns that provide a range of unique attractions from tandem surf rides to an Elvis Presley museum.

WHANGANUI

New Zealand's beautiful Whanganui River provides the perfect playground for visitors to the city of Wanganui.  For those with energy, a five-day kayaking trip along the river is a fabulous way to see the wild Whanganui National Park or you can take a thrilling jet boat ride to the mysterious 'Bridge to Nowhere'  Others will simply enjoy the pleasure of driving the Whanganui River Road, snaking alongside the beautiful emerald green river, through pristine lichen-covered forests and misty hollows to the perfectly mirrored image of St Joseph's and onto Pipiriki.

RANGITIKEI

Primarily a farming district, the Rangitikei District offers a range of adventurous outdoor activities, particularly around the Rangitikei River where bungy jumping, flying fox and scenic chairlift rides are on offer at Mokai Gravity.  Small townships have their own attractions:  Bulls boasts the RNZAF Air Force Museum as well as quirky signposts and murals (ie 'Consta-bull' on the police station); Gumboot throwing is something of a sport in Taihape, and to acknowledge this a huge boot has been erected on its main street.
