Lying to the west of the North Island is the number one course in the Taranaki region, New Plymouth Golf Club, known to the locals as Ngamotu (the islands), is a course that sits above the ocean at New Plymouth. Ngamotu is designed so that both nines sweep out from the clubhouse in two giant loops, which guarantees an adventure for players at some time or other during the round. This championship course and local gem has played host to four New Zealand Opens and features fantastic views of nearby Mt Taranaki.
The capital city of Wellington is home to a number of championship local courses. For a real golfing treat head north just 50 minutes outside of the capital where you will find one of New Zealand’s golfing icons, the legendary Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club. Home to undulating fairways, fierce rough, fast greens and intimidating bunkers the course combines with the naturally windy coastal weather to create a truly challenging golfing experience. Superior presentation and changes to the set-up of the course over the past few years have only served to strengthen the true links character of Paraparaumu. A former home of the New Zealand Open, Paraparaumu also has the distinction of being the only course to host Tiger Woods in this event.
