Tuahu Kauri Walking Tracks

Kauri trees feature on these walks. Retrace an old Maori route that was also used as a bridle track in the 1980's.

Type: Walking tracks

This walk is located in within the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park and begins at the end of Hot Springs Rd just south of Katikati.
The Tuahu is an old Maori route that was also used as a bridle in the 1890's. From the car park the well benched and graded track winds through attractive native forest featuring some lovely young kauri (rickers) and juvenile rimu trees. After 20 minutes a side track leads to a platform surrounding one of the largest kauri trees remaining in the Bay of Plenty.

Past this the main track becomes more difficult, narrows and continues up the crest of the Kaimai Range, so return by same route.
