Dunedin's rugged, historic scenery is home to a number of unique scenic highlights.
During summer, the locals head to St Clair Beach; a wildly beautiful beach to walk, swim or surf. Only a 10 minute drive from the city centre, this beach is a must-see when you visit Dunedin.
You should put aside at least a day to explore the Otago Peninsula; home to fascinating penguin and fur seal colonies as well as dramatic cliffs. There's also an albatross colony here at Taiaroa Head. The Southern end of the peninsula is particularly wild and rugged.
Just two kilometres south of the city lies Tunnel Beach, where you'll find a line of magnificent arches, cliffs and headlands that provides many places from which to admire sweeping views of the coastline and beyond. The Tunnel Beach Walkway is an easy one hour-return track.
