In June 2016 the NZ Youth Choir will perform an Auckland Farewell Concert prior to their eleventh international tour.
The New Zealand Youth Choir in its 36-year history has undertaken ten overseas tours representing its country, its youth and its music.
Tour itineraries have included visits to the United Kingdom, Europe, Canada, USA, Australia, Singapore, Russia, the Republic of Korea and China.
At the end of June the NZ Youth Choir heads to Europe for its 2016 European Landmark Tour. Stopping off at Singapore to perform in the recently refurbished Victoria Concert Hall, the party will fly on to Prague en route to the International Festival of Academic Choirs in Pardubice in East Bohemia.
This 4-day Festival, which began 48 years ago, has been host to choirs from many countries but this will be the first time a New Zealand group has taken part.
The concert in Le Quesnoy in Northern France will celebrate the liberation of the town by the NZ Division in WW1 and the town’s friendship with New Zealand over the last 100 years. The Youth Choir will travel on to Paris to participate in High Mass at Notre-Dame Cathedral. Crossing the English Channel they perform in University Church, Oxford, St Georges Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, the St John’s Smith Square concert hall in Westminster, Ely Cathedral and in the Cambridge Summer Music Festival at St John’s College Chapel.
Be among the first to hear songs from the rich and varied repertoire the New Zealand Youth Choir will take to the world on their 11th international tour. Enjoy music by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Cornelius, Whitacre and NZ composers David Hamilton, Sarah McCallum and Tuirina Wehi.
Join us for this concert to see off our talented young choristers to take New Zealand song to the world.
