The Nelson region is a walking and hiking paradise - tracks wind past white sand beaches and and climb above cliffs offering panoramic coastal views.
The most famous walking track in the Nelson region is the Abel Tasman Great Walk. This idyllic track winds past crescent-shaped coves, golden sand beaches and forests that echo with the calls of the bellbird and tui. The length of the walk is 51 kilometres and can be completed in 3-5 days; but don't rush - you'll be surrounded by so much natural beauty and wildlife; you'll want to take your time soaking it all in. If you are looking for a day walk; choose a leg of the track that inspires you and a water taxi can drop you off and pick you up at designated areas.
