About

Orokonui Ecosanctuary – Te Korowai o Mihiwaka, is a community-led, not-for-profit conservation project near Dunedin in the lower part of the South Island of Aotearoa/New Zealand. With 307 hectares of protected cloud forest to explore, Orokonui is the perfect place to get out into nature. Thanks to the specialised predator resistant fence Orokonui's valley is home to some of the most special and threatened wildlife in Aotearoa/NZ. Including kākā, takahē, tuatara, jewelled geckos, Otago skinks, and Haast tokoeka (kiwi). There are a range of tracks and tour options for guests to explore the sanctuary by themselves or with the support of one of our expert guides. All visits help Orokonui to ensure wildlife thrives here and in our community.
