Start your journey with a scenic drive along the shores of Lake Wakatipu. As you come around a bend in the road, you will see Pigeon Island emerge from the turquoise waters of the lake. Enjoy a relaxing boat journey to the island before embarking on a leisurely 3-4 hour walk (4km) on well-formed tracks. Tui and bellbird acknowledge your presence with beautiful birdsong, wood pigeon swoop overhead, and the endangered buff weka welcomes you with its curious gaze. After enjoying a replenishing picnic lunch on the beach, you will contribute to the regeneration of the Wakatipu Basin’s native forests by planting your own tree. Return to the mainland via boat after this enlightening and rewarding half-day island adventure.
