You will be welcomed to Takaparawhau by one of our kaitiaki (guides). As the sun begins to rise over the Waitematā Harbour, hear an ancient karakia (blessing), the call of our kaikaranga (female caller) and putatara (wooden horn) welcoming the new day.

In the light of the new day, acknowledge Papatuanuku (Mother Earth) by planting a native tree and your wish into the whenua (land) connecting you and your spirit to the whenua.

Finally share breakfast with your kaitiaki in the wharekai (eating house) on the marae (tribal meeting house). This is an important part of the ceremony as it lifts the sacredness from those that participate. Leave feeling refreshed both physically and spiritually, and with the knowledge that you carry good fortune.
