Take a dip
Warm up in winter and soak your bones in summer. Rotorua is famous for the geothermal landscape and has free natural hot springs for swimming and soaking. Combine a visit to the local's favourite, Kerosene Creek, with a short walk along the base of Rainbow Mountain.
Love the lakes
Rotorua isn't known as the 'Rotorua Lakes District' for nothing. There are 18 sparkling lakes in the area, the family will be spoilt for choice when it comes to fun in, on and around the water.
Explore the Government Gardens
Set in front of the historic Bath House, home of the Rotorua Museum, the Government Gardens precinct features the Klamath Falls Rose Gardens, the Government Gardens Scenic Trail, a kids play area and more.
The Redwoods are a tranquil and idyllic place for a family stroll and only a few minutes drive from town. Head further out to Okere Falls, follow the track along the river and take the steps down to the caves overlooking Tutea Falls.
Catch the action
Discover the hissing, bubbling and steaming geothermal action at Kuirau Park. The smooth, wide paths offer easy walking and riding with great lookout points. Catch the Rotary Market held on Saturday mornings next to the play area.
