With over 20km of purpose built mountain biking trails, Arapuke Forest Park offers riding for all abilities, from grade 2 to 6.
Enjoy riding up the back track through a stunning green forest dotted with small stream crossings – a great opportunity to splash some crisp clean water on your face to cool down. You will find more excuses for a rest with some truly breathtaking views out and across the valley. Once you’ve made it to the top, pick your trail and have fun! Experience a mix of trails, from the flowing and bermed ‘Jack Frost’ and ‘About Time’ trails, to the more advanced ‘Rambo’ and ‘Rocky’ trails with challenging rollovers, jumps and drop-offs.
Grab a trail map from the Palmerston North City i-SITE, or plan your route from the trail map located in the car park on Kahuterawa Rd.
The Kahuterawa Rd end of Arapuke Forest Park is scenic 25-minute drive from Palmerston North City, this is the most popular access point to the mountain bike park. For those not so interested in mountain biking, this is also the start of the popular Sledge Track, one of Manawatu’s best day walks.
Access from the bottom (most popular):
Head to the end of Kahuterawa Rd, where you will find a car park on your left approximately 100 meters before the road finishes. From here, jump on your bike and carry on down the road and cross Blacks Bridge. This will take you up a 4km one-way back track to the top of the park.
Access from the top:
Head out of Palmerston North on SH57, and turn left onto Scotts Rd (between Linton & Tokomaru). Follow Scotts Rd to the end, where you can park and start riding! If you end up riding to the bottom, there is a 4km one-way backtrack at the bridge to get back to the top.
