Winter in Queenstown provides some stunning snow-covered mountains to skydive over and the perfect backdrop for your freefall photography. Take in this snowy alpine scenery on our 15 minute scenic flight to skydive altitude and even pick out the lines you plan to ski or ride the next day.
There are four ski fields within a short drive from Queenstown. NZONE Skydive fly directly over The Remarkables ski field which at its highest peak of Double Cone, reaches 7600 feet. From our highest skydive altitude of 15,000ft, we are almost double this height as our customers throw themselves out of the aircraft and fall at 200km/hour – terminal velocity.
The first big snow dumps usually come at the end of May each year with Queenstown blanketed in the white stuff to ground level. Snow storms in May usually last a few days and the days following these snow storms are the most special times to skydive. The lucky ones that get to skydive on these stunning blue-sky crisp days get to take home spectacular images and footage.
See above photos for some amazing examples of real customer images. We also made a quick video of one stunning winter snow day – make sure you watch it above!
The Remarkables is one of two Queenstown ski-fields, owned by NZSki. The other, Coronet Peak, is located on the other side of Queenstown, only a 20 minute drive from the CBD. Cardrona ski field is located in the Cardrona Valley around one hour from Queenstown, while Treble Cone ski field is located just outside of Wanaka. With so much choice of where to ski or snowboard and so much varied terrain; there is a mountain for everyone to enjoy.
However, make sure you break up your Queenstown holiday by experiencing some of the reasons that Queenstown is known as the Adrenaline Capital of the World! Skydiving, bungy jumping, jet boating… we’ve got it all!
