Apart from being the first multi-day cycling stage race ever held here, the Tour has the added bonus of heading through our most dramatic and diverse countryside.  So riders will see our best scenery, stop at iconic tourist spots and meet Kiwis along the way.

One group of cyclists sets off from the tip of the North Island and another from the bottom of the South Island - and meet in the middle – at parliament buildings in Wellington.

It’s a great ride that appeals to occasional cyclists looking for motivation and an achievable goal – as well as hardcore racers aiming to crack a new challenge. Teams can swap riders, change bikes and bring in new members so it’s about fun cycling as well as semi-serious racing.

North to south riders set off from iconic Cape Reinga lighthouse and swoop through ancient Kauri forests, past the beautiful beaches of Northland and down through the Central Plateau, via the picturesque Whanganui River region en route to Wellington.

Those setting off from Bluff in the south pedal past dramatic mountain ranges, conquer high country passes, admire the stunning blues of the South Lakes and be welcomed by cheering locals as they head through rural towns.

To cap it all off there’s a north/south battle on a criterium style circuit through the grounds of parliament – what a way to end a tour!
