Having ticked off two, Megan Gale is keen to experience more of New Zealand’s cycle trails. Here’s what’s top of her list.
Made up of three trails, the Hawke’s Bay Trails are perfectly suited to family cycle touring. Each of the trails offers a different experience; from ocean and mountain views to amazing wineries. They are easily accessible and there is a plethora of accommodation options along the way. I’d especially love to have lunch at Elephant Hill Estate & Winery, and check out the local farmers’ markets.
There are numerous wineries and restaurants found along The Queenstown Trail. Plus the many accommodation options make for a relaxed experience. Lake Hayes looks spectacular in the autumn with its’ green and gold foliage.
I fell in love with Central Otago on my last cycling trip when I rode the Otago Central Rail Trail, so would really like to explore more of the region’s cycle trails. The Clutha Gold Trail offers an incredible insight into Maori and early European culture and history. Plus a refreshing dip at Pinders Pond sounds divine after a day of riding.
