Kumeū is a refreshing blend of boutique wineries, orchards and rolling green farmland.

Home to Auckland’s oldest winery, Kumeū boasts award-winning restaurants, fascinating galleries and diverse speciality shops.

Catch the ferry or take a short drive to New Zealand’s oldest riverside tavern, The Riverhead, for a delicious meal and drinks overlooking the water, or visit the nearby brewbar Hallertau and restaurant for freshly brewed craft beers.

Kumeū combines a rich history with a picturesque countryside setting. The region’s winemaking heritage dates back to the 1940s, when families of Croatian origin opened Auckland’s first wineries. Try a cellar door tasting at one of Kumeū’s many boutique wineries, ranging in size from small artisan winemakers to some of the best-known names in wine.

Kumeū offers a variety of small cafés, restaurants, galleries and specialty shops. Head to the countryside to stock up on fresh, juicy fruit and vegetables from roadside vendors.

Make sure you also visit the nearby Woodhill Forest, a stunning natural playground for adventure lovers.

A little further past Kumeū you’ll also find Muriwai Beach, a beautiful, windswept coastline with black sand and dramatic cliffs. Drive further north to Helensville for a hot swim or a wander around the town.
