The historic church is one of Clutha’s best loved landmarks also look out for Old Sod Cottage as you drive through this more than 140 years old rural town.

The small town of Milton has a number of significant historic buildings. The Old Sod Cottage, built in the 1860s, was a sanctuary for miners on their way to the Tuapeka goldfields. The Gold barons took the shortcut over Lake Waihola.

Other historic buildings include, Toko Church, McGills Flour Mill and the Bruce Woollen Mill. Milton also has an interesting museum. Recommended fishing spots include Bull Creek and Toko Mouth which are off the forgotten costal highway which links Taieri Mouth and Kaitangata. Nearby are ancient whale and dolphin fossils at Milburn and the Sinclair Wetlands with wonderful walks and wildlife.
