Tawharanui is one of my favourite places in the world. It’s situated above Auckland on a perfect peninsula scattered with hills and soft white sand beaches. Its smooth green grass and protected shoreline makes an ultimate home for wildlife and an idyllic paradise for holiday makers.
Over the years I’ve grown a huge attachment to Tawharanui’s sweet scented landscape – buzzing with bees and dancing with the chorus of birds. Every time I’m back in New Zealand, I make sure I visit. On my last exploration to Tawharanui with friends and family, we were fortunate enough to come across a pod of around 25 Bottle Nose dolphins. It was breathtaking to see them jumping, diving, turning, twisting, flipping and most of all having fun. Dolphins are incredibly beautiful creatures with a light hearted playfulness that exudes from them. While in the water with these glorious creatures, I managed to grab a few shots with my new GoPro Hero3.
We also spent the night camping in Tawharanui. It was a wonderful experience waking up to the sounds of birds singing and the gentle crashing of waves against the golden sand beach. It was one of the most amazing camping trips I’ve been on and I get a pang of excitement rushing through me every time I think about it.
