Taupo is a scenic 1.5 hour drive to Whakapapa ski field or 2 hours from Turoa ski field both located on Mt Ruapehu. Both ski fields offer a Snow School for complete beginners, as well as more advanced options. Everything you need to have a great day up on the mountain is available in Taupo, including ski and snowboard rental, warm weather gear shops (and rental), and transport to and from the mountain.


Off the mountain, Taupo is home to many unique geothermal features, the mighty Huka Falls and a soak in the DeBrett’s hot spring pools is a great way to warm up.
