Don’t let the Springtime sprinkles get you down. Grab a light jacket and get out and about in Rotorua to celebrate the season.

Spring has sprung in the Bay Of Plenty and now is the time to get out and celebrate.  There may still be a nip in the air and some clouds in the sky, but if you’re brave enough the chance the elements, you will be rewarded in droves with the bounty of Rotorua Spring.

Flowers are the first thing to come to mind when dreaming of Spring and Rotorua has flowers in spades.  A casual stroll through the Government Gardens admiring the fresh blossoms is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.  To up your flower viewing game, you can also attend the Rotorua Tulip Festival, taking place 2-11 of October.

Early October also means the beginning of Trout Season, which officially opens on October 1 for the majority of the Bay of Plenty’s waterways (though you can fish in Lake Rotorua year round). If trout isn’t your dish, you can still enjoy Rotorua’s beautiful Lake District with Rotorua Duck Tours.  Their amphibious vehicles will take you through town and straight into the lake – and they offer cover from those spring rains… just in case!

Nothing says Spring like baby animals.  To really get into the celebration of the season, head to Rotorua’s Agrodome, where lambs, calves, ducklings and more await your cuddles and photos.  Catch a Farm Show while you’re there for a live sheep-shearing demonstration followed up by a working dog performance from some of New Zealand’s most industrious pups.

Spring time means ITM cup season for New Zealand’s rugby fans.  Rotorua offers one of New Zealand’s largest rugby stadiums that regularly plays host the Bay of Plenty’s own provincial rugby team, The Bay of Plenty Steamers.  Catch a hard hitting game under the bright lights and stay warm with a beer and a hot dog from the stadium vendors.

If it’s food you’re after, Spring is the time to venture out to the Rotorua markets.  The Saturday Market offers fruits and veggies of all shapes and sizes alongside artisan vendors serving up fresh coffee and indulgent breakfast sandwiches.  For even more culinary selection, check out the Rotorua Night Market, which offers an international cuisine served up next to a collection of produce and local arts and crafts.

So don’t let the Springtime sprinkles get you down.  Grab a light jacket and get out and about in Rotorua to celebrate the season.
