There are plenty of places to choose from – the Tarawera Trail is epic, as is the Blue Lake Track. For something really special, hike up mighty Mount Tarawera, standing sentinel over the Bay of Plenty. The views along are incredible – on a clear day, you can see all the way out to White Island.

On the Kaituna River, you’ll plunge the world’s highest commercially raftable waterfall – it’s 7m high! In addition, you’ll glide through lush, forested canyons and experience huge gorges. Surrounded by cicadas and the call of birdsong, this is a magical adventure to enjoy during the summer months.

Conquer the trails

Rotorua’s world-famous mountain biking trails, that is! There’s over 90km of world-famous mountain biking trails here, catering for everyone from beginner to expert. Head to the Whakarewarewa Forest, where there’s free access tracks built by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers.
