Hereweka Garden is a large 4 acre garden in a ‘hidden valley’ on the lower slopes of Harbour Cone on the Otago Peninsula. It has over 200 Rhododendrons, interesting and rare trees and shrubs, large herbaceous border filled with perennials, roses, bulbs and shrubs, ponds and paths.
The most recentl development is a valley with a Gondwana planting theme, including palms, cordylines and tree ferns. Native bush surrounds, with mature rimu trees. Hereweka was named by the original Maori inhabitants of the peninsula, it means snaring of the woodhen or weka. It is the area around that prominent peninsula landmark called Harbour Cone or Pukemata.
