Booking essential. Zealandia private/custom night tours are available on request, guide guest ratio 1:12, max 36 x pax per night. Minimum age: 12 years. Private tours are available for those with children aged 5+.
Cancellations more than 14 days out: full refund. Cancellations 13-7 days notice: 50% refund. Cancellations 6-0 days notice: no refund. Tours proceed rain or shine, although the Karori Sanctuary Trust, which manages Zealandia, reserves the right to cancel due to unsafe weather conditions, in which case a full refund will be given.
Your guide will lead you through the sanctuary valley by torchlight, in search of the distinctive sights and sounds of the New Zealand bush – including kiwi.
Possible sights: Kiwi foraging on the forest floor, tuatara hunting for food, glow-worms shining, tiny Maud Island frogs in their enclosure, kākā (parrots) coming in to roost.
Possible sounds: The high-pitched call of kiwi, the ghostly echo of the ruru (morepork), the scritch-scritch of tree wētā, the skraark of kākā and the rustling of other nocturnal creatures.
Little spotted kiwi: Over 180 of these nocturnal birds live freely in their natural environment inside the safety of the predator proof sanctuary - so your chances of finding one are good and your guide will help you.
