City Walks introduces a Town & Gown walk which showcases the rich architecture and colourful social history associated with Otago University.

'Apollo! Venus! Bless my ballocks!/ Where are the games, the hugs, the frolics?/ Are all of you bastards melancholics?'. So asked Burns Fellow James K. Baxter in 'A Small Ode on Mixed Flatting', written in 1967.

It's hard to imagine what all the fuss was about now, but the issue of mixed flatting, ie. male and female students cohabiting off-campus, polarised students and University authorities back in the day, and inspired an incendiary poem by one of Otago's favourite sons.

Learn all about it on City Walks' Town & Gown guided walk, which departs from the Knox Church steps, corner of George and Pitt Streets, Mondays to Saturdays at 1.30pm. The walk takes 90 minutes and showcases the beautiful and historic University of Otago campus.
