Christchurch is home to some of the best markets in New Zealand! Whether you’re shopping for food, clothes, gifts or something a little different, Christchurch will have a market for you:

1. The Lyttelton Farmers’ Market

Held every Saturday from 10am to 1pm in the grounds of Lyttelton Main School (Oxford Street, Lyttelton) this popular foodie event is full of delicious edible goodies. As well as fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs and plants that you can buy direct from the growers, you’ll find organic meat, free range eggs, boutique cheeses, delicious chocolate treats and so much more. Don’t have breakfast before you go!

2. The Cathedral Square Market - Relocated

Now found in the YMCA carpark (cnr Cashel St & Rolleston Ave), this small market is held 9am-3pm Fridays & Saturdays. Primed at tourists, this market offers some great wool, greenstone and paua souvenirs as well as bone carvings, handmade and imported jewellery, clothes, sunglasses and more. A handy, central location with some great bargains to be had.

3. Riccarton House Farmers’ Market

The ‘original Christchurch farmers’ market’ is set in the beautiful grounds of Riccarton House (Kahu Road, Christchurch). Visit Saturday 9am-12pm and indulge in fine coffee and sweet treats as you purchase the freshest fruit and vegetables and quality organic ingredients. From January to April you can also shop Wednesday evenings from 4pm-6pm. Spare enough time for a quick wander through Riccarton Bush too!

4. Riccarton Market

New Zealand’s largest outdoor market opens every Sunday from 9am-2pm at Riccarton Racecourse (Racecourse Road, Christchurch). Running for over 20 years, the Riccarton Market is owned by the Riccarton Rotary Charitable Trust and houses over 300 vendors every weekend. Purchase fresh fruit and vegetables, secondhand items, clothes, art, plants and gifts as you enjoy the delicious food stalls and bustling market atmosphere.
