Marvel at the glacial blue lakes and tussock clad hills that lie at the base of Mt Cook; New Zealand's highest peak .

Glacier fed crystal blue hydro lakes are scattered throughout the Tekapo area and an early morning stop for an iconic photograph at the famous Church of the Good Shepherd is recommended to soak up the peace and tranquillity that envelop this early settler icon. At night marvel at the clarity of the Mackenzie skies as you learn about the stars above on a Mount John Observatory guided tour. Head further inland across windswept grasslands to gaze in wonder at the enigmatically named Aoraki Mount Cook – ‘the Cloud Piercer’ which overlooks the Aoraki Mount Cook National Park and numerous glaciers including the unique Tasman Glacier with its extraordinary glacier lake.

Don’t miss High Tea at the Hermitage Mt Cook
Enjoy an afternoon of elegant indulgence! High Tea at the Hermitage Hotel is perfect for intimate gatherings, special occasions or get togethers with friends. Marvel at the amazing views of Mt Cook through panoramic windows while you spoil yourself with a little 'afternoon delight'.

Did you know?
The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre at the Hermitage is a tribute to Sir Edmund Hillary, humanitarian, ambassador and one of the world's greatest explorers. The centre showcases the Aoraki Mount Cook region, its people and its place in the universe. The Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre's 126-seat custom-designed theatre is the world's only theatre with 2D, 3D and world-class definiti® Digital Dome Planetarium, contained within the same space. Cutting edge technology allows the 2D screen to raise up for storage while the 3D screen is in use and the Digital Dome Planetarium to lower into place when required. In the foyer of the theatre you'll find a museum showcasing the history of the Mount Cook region through transport, climbing, The Hermitage Hotel and pioneer extraordinaire, Sir Edmund Hillary himself.
