Just two and half hours from Christchurch the magic land of Tekapo awaits you with a smorgasbord of activities for the whole family
A scenic two and half hour drive from Christchurch is the stunning Lake Tekapo.
Set against a backdrop of the turquoise-blue waters of Lake Tekapo and the snow capped mountains of the Southern Alps, Tekapo is the perfect place to base your family fun filled holiday.
There is so much to do at Tekapo and the kids just love it.
My family fun favourites:
1. Soaking in the hot pools overlooking Lake Tekapo – so much fun for your children
2. Visiting Mount John Star Observatory – where you too can see Pluto!
3. Skiing at Round Hill or Mount Dobson – Round Hill is a great little club filed that caters for both experts and children
4. Take a scenic flight over Mount Cook – this is absolutely breathtaking – you feel like you can almost touch the mountains and your children will be talking about it for days!
5. Tubing at Alpine Springs in winter – not for the faint hearted
6. Ice skating (from Easter), roller blading at other times.
7. Horse Trekking around the lake
8. Walking up Mount John, or for the very fit and active you can run!
9. Tekapo Mini Golf – to bring out the competitive streak in you!
10. Take your children fishing
Lake Tekapo has so much to offer you and your family. With stunning views and a bounty of activities I’d highly recommend it as a great place to get away.
