Built in the early 1900's on the beachfront in picturesque Akaroa the original Garthowen was run as boarding house accommodation.  The present owners have re-designed and re-built a stunning and elegant new version to offer luxury guest and hosted accommodation.

Native timbers, recycled from the original building have been used throughout; with its sweeping verandahs, the elegance and graciousness of the original Garthowen has been recaptured.

All rooms have direct access outside onto a verandah, affording views of the beautiful cottage garden and the stunning Akaroa harbour which is 10 metres from the front door, as is the swimming beach.

The location is perfect for strolling to the cafes, restaurants, galleries and boutique shopping in this French heritage village.  Nearby Barry’s Bay Cheese Factory.
