Lord of the Rings scenic flights

Queenstown is well known for its Lord of the Rings film locations and some say that the best way to experience this part of Middle Earth is by helicopter.

Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters in Queenstown offer Lord of the Rings scenic helicopter flights and are well qualified to do so as one of their senior pilots, Alfie Speight, was the principal filming pilot for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

The tour gives Lord of the Rings fans a close up look at several film locations such as where Arwen faces the Nazgal at the Ford of Bruinen along the Shotover River.

It also includes a glacier landing alongside Mt Earnslaw which can also be recognised as the Misty Mountains, giving passengers a sense of what it might be like to cross The Redhorn Pass.

Flying over Glenorchy and the Paradise Valley you will also experience plenty of natural features which also double as Isengard, Amon Hen and Lothlorien.
