Milford Track Encounter - Ultimate Hikes

If you are starting your day in Queenstown we ask that you meet at the Ultimate Hikes Centre bright and early. You will then travel by coach along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, through the sweeping landscape to the Ultimate Hikes Office in Te Anau. If you are joining your guide in Te Anau, you will meet at the Ultimate Hikes Office.

You will then travel along the shores of Lake Te Anau to the boat harbour at Te Anau Downs. Enjoy a hot drink aboard an hour long boat journey to the northern end of the lake and the start of the Milford Track. Disembarking, you will walk a short 1.6km (1 mile) to the historic Glade House.

Here we enjoy a scrumptious lunch from the kitchen. After visiting the small museum there, you'll follow the Clinton River through rich Beech forest. Your guide will point out aspects of the forest and history to you along the way.

On the return, you will walk up the Glade Burn Track for a fantastic view of Lake Te Anau before descending down a dry river bed to the return launch.

We provide everything from door to door transport, all food, hot drinks, free loan of day packs and rainjackets, sunscreen and insect repellent, to an emergency radio system for complete safety.

All you need is walking boots or shoes, a bottle of water, warm clothing and your camera! As you walk your guide will share their knowledge of the unique flora, fauna, history and geography of the region.
