New Zealand's Sport Scene

With the perfect climate and inspiring landscapes, New Zealand is a sporting heaven.

It’s easy to understand why Kiwis love their sport - They live and play in paradise! New Zealand’s beautiful scenery and fresh air make it the ideal playground. That, plus a Kiwi sense of adventure means every mountain, forest, river and road are perfect for unique sporting events.

The country’s national sport is Rugby and with four major annual events, the game dominates the sporting calendar. New Zealand played host to the Rugby World Cup 2011 and welcomed over 95,000 international visitors to its shores. The country will continue to host international sporting events such as the 2013 Softball World Champs and the BMX World Champs, as well as the ITM Triathlon Championship Grand Final in October 2012.

Netball is another popular game for spectators and participants alike during the winter months, whilst summer sees New Zealand’s national cricket team, The Black Caps, enjoys a dedicated following as they take to the pitch for annual test matches.

New Zealandis an active nation. The country’s climate and easy to reach scenic parks and destinations make it the ideal place for other popular sports like cycling, golf, touch football, rowing and skiing.
