Queenstown Winterfestival Fantastic

The Queenstown Winterfestival gets you right into the winter spirit. Combine this with a stay at Browns Boutique Hotel in central Queenstown. Great combo.

When we go on holiday it is a ‘must’ that we are right in the heart of the fun and festivities.  So, there was no debate on the selection of Queenstown- for its Winterfestival- and the choice of centrally located Browns Boutique Hotel, for our accommodation.  A perfect combination!

Winterfestival heralds the beginning of winter (in 2012 it starts on 22 June) and it is such a stylish event.   With a proud 38 year history you can certainly feel the event is well polished and provides visitors like us with great entertainment. 

There are so many events to participate in and view during the 10 days. The nearby ski areas get involved hosting events on the slopes.  One of the strangest events we watched was the Dog Derby on Coronet Peak.  Nearby farmers, and their sheep dogs, raced each other down the mountain.  The dogs looked a little perplexed though when riding the chair lift!   

Meanwhile in Queenstown there is the chance to ‘glam it up’ for the Masquerade Ball or find yourself in fits of laughter at the Comedy Debates.

Browns Boutique Hotel is so near the heart of Queenstown and it was easy for us to stroll into town and enjoy all the Winterfestival events.   The vibe is fantastic.  Plus we really enjoyed being in smaller hotel and we were thrilled with our room, which had a Juliet balcony with views over Queenstown (and all the festivities). 

Host Gillian and Donald were so helpful with suggestions and tips during our stay, including the very best information on skiing and local conditions.  We were quite new to skiing but doing a few turns was an important part of the Winterfestival for us.  
Coronet Peak is the closest ski area to Queenstown, yet The Remarkables are only 40 minutes drive and even Cardrona is only 1 hour away.    But Coronet Peak was the place for us to start.  Within about 20 minutes from Browns Boutique Hotel location we were on the mountain. Getting our gear and lesson sorted was really easy.    It was a great day and the lesson is well worth the investment.  The instructors can see what you are doing wrong in a flash and provide the right piece of advice to make an improvement.  

With all that activity we had to keep our energy levels up and a great way to start the day was with Gillian and Donald’s hearty breakfasts.  Our cooked breakfasts were made to order.  Eggs Benedict was definitely our favourite!

There’s over 10 days of fun at Winterfestival.  Get involved, either on the slopes or in town.  Winterfestival 2012 and Browns Boutique Hotel…….definitely the perfect combination.
