Spring Skiing in Wanaka

Spring skiing and riding in September brings warmer days and sunnier slopes. Don't miss out in Wanaka this spring.

My group of friends and I got into Wanaka after what seemed a very quick, direct trip from Sydney, into Queenstown and then over the Crown Range alpine pass and into this stunning lakeside resort.

We’d all seen the ads on telly but they could never do this place justice – it’s just AWESOME! We stayed at Edgewater and were stoked with our rooms – lot’s of space and really comfy beds – although, as usual, we couldn’t agree on who got what bed/room!

The views from Edgewater are amazing – our rooms gave us completely unobstructed views of Lake Wanaka and the mountains.

Even though there’s the choice of three nearby ski areas to choose from, we decided to go to Treble Cone – or TC as everyone here seems to call it – because some of the guys wanted to do some big mountain skiing while myself and a couple of the other girls haven’t been riding long so we wanted to stick to the beginner and intermediate slopes. The guys at Edgewater were so helpful – they got us sorted every morning, getting us onto the right buses and then storing and drying our gear for us at night – they even met us with mulled wine when we came back at the end of the day – legends! AND, just to add to the best holiday ever, we used the spa pool every evening!

Generally Treble Cone and Cardrona open in late June and remain open right through the spring, until early October.

We dined in a couple of times at the in house restaurant – ended up having a couple of large nights with great food, great wine and such fun staff. Anything we wanted to know or needed help with, they were all more than happy to help – and there’s nothing better for ‘tourists’ like us than local knowledge!

All in all, we absolutely loved our trip to Wanaka and can’t wait to come back again next season!
